MealGuard Food Allergy Scanner
MealGuard is a mobile application developed by Miguel Pinto, registered in Belgium. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use MealGuard.
Your privacy is central to our design. MealGuard works entirely on your device — we do not operate servers that store your personal data.
MealGuard collects only the information you provide directly:
All of this information is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.
If you use the manual backup feature, an exported file containing this data is saved to a location you choose on your device or external storage. This file is outside the app's control.
MealGuard may request access to your camera and photo library to set a profile avatar. Photos are stored in the app's private local storage. We do not upload or share your photos.
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), we request your consent before enabling analytics, crash reporting, or advertising. These services are only activated after you grant consent.
Firebase Analytics — we collect anonymous usage data such as which features are used, how often scans are performed, severity and tier distributions (e.g. "3 allergies, 2 intolerances"), and general engagement metrics. We never collect allergen names, food names, product details, or any information that could identify a specific health condition. Firebase Analytics may process your IP address (truncated in the EEA) and device identifiers. Data is retained for 14 months.
Firebase Crashlytics — if the app crashes, we collect crash reports including stack traces, device model, operating system version, and a Crashlytics installation identifier. This helps us fix bugs and improve stability. No personal or health data is included in crash reports.
Firebase Remote Config — we use this service to manage feature flags and promotional codes. It makes periodic requests to Google servers, which may log connection metadata (IP address, device type). No personal data is sent.
Google AdMob — all users may see a small banner advertisement. Free users may additionally see full-screen interstitial advertisements and optional rewarded advertisements to temporarily unlock certain features. AdMob may use an advertising identifier to serve relevant ads, subject to your consent preferences. Premium users see only the banner advertisement.
All of these services are provided by Google and governed by Google's privacy policies. Analytics, crash reporting, and advertising are only active with your explicit consent.
Premium features are unlocked through Google Play's in-app purchase system. Payment information is handled exclusively by Google and is not accessible to us. Please refer to Google Play's privacy policy for details.
Your data is stored on your device; its security depends on your device's own security settings. We recommend enabling a screen lock.
We have no access to the data on your device and cannot recover it if your device is lost or reset.
If you export a backup, the resulting file contains your personal data (profiles, avoid items, preferences, and avatar photos). Once exported, this file is outside the app's protected storage and its security is your responsibility. We recommend storing backup files in a secure location and deleting them when no longer needed.

Since all data is stored locally, you can exercise these rights directly in the app by editing or deleting profiles and avoid list items, or by uninstalling the app, which removes all data permanently. However, any previously exported backup files remain wherever you saved them and must be deleted separately.
MealGuard is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, please contact us.
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Changes will be reflected in an updated version of this policy within the app. Continued use of MealGuard after changes are published constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
